Greece. Land of antiquities. Loosely translated, meaning in western tongues The Land Where Sleeping Dogs Lie. No kidding, they're everywhere. Alone, in slumber parties, these morpheus ridden canines fill the city. Unlike Prague, however, the pigeons are sleek and quick. Doubtless because the cats are sleek and quick that we have seen. The fattest cats were found sleeping inside the fowl cages at the National Botanic Gardens, looking as smug as brown tabbies can possibly look.

Rainy day, so mom and I have done museum. Amazing textiles, lots of artwork on the war of liberation from the turks in the 19th c. Books on fashion show things through the Byzantine era, then an abrupt jump up to the 1700s. Very suspicious. Looking at the statues, they clearly ran around naked for the rest of the time.

Something is afoot though. This morning, a leisurely stroll down embassy row across from the botanical gardens was peaceful, quiet. Walking back at 4, the number of machine gun armed uniforms has exploded (if not literally) with cammie garbed regulars wandering the gardens themselves down the pathways lined with foxglove.

And yet again, I'm travelling with someone who doesn't want to wander up and ask what's up. So we cleared that block in record time. Hm.

Greece says straight up in all the tourist books: There is no limit to the amount of currency you're allowed to import into the country. Go figure. We can't read greek beyond me puzzling out the letters and pronunciation, but clearly every other store spells out Spend It Here.

More later.
