A good Sunday too!
Nov. 23rd, 2008 10:12 pmTook a walk with Mom and Carla and the dog down to the Hardware store. Mom and I sampled paint chips, until I made an executive decision and ordered two gallons. Found a small quart of fun red for a dollar in the 'oops we mixed the wrong color' basket for Geofry to play with. Also looked at the little wallpaper scratchers and compound. The gals say because we're layered, get twice as much as we think we need. That'll be an after turkey day project for sure. Will have to do some demolition to get rid of that window seat too, make some more room in the kitchen.
So yes, we started on the red wall, which is now a very cheerful creme brulee color. Well, without the brulee. It's sort of the color of after you eat off the sugar part, creamy vanilla buttery white. I smile just to look at it, so I know it's the right shade to chase out the gloom from the room. Very resellable.
Also picked up a new beading needle. Julie and Dave came back over to hang out. We had dinner and mostly just chatted while I sewed beads on mom's dress. I'm about ten good minutes from finishing, I think, just ran out of pearls that fit the needle. (JoAnns here has a terrible needle selection. Only one size beading needle, and they don't fit freshwater pearls well.) I need a smaller one.
Carla is downstairs now canning the rest of her Christmas soup, aka her standard present to the world. Sort of a minestrone, I think. I had a bite and it was okay, though I'd have to doctor it. Her relatives apparently are not quite into spices the way I am, and it is a good base for other things.
I think I have all the contingency decisions in place at last. Life is always simple and easy and remarkably pleasant when I know what I want and how to get it. We shall see how tomorrow and the next few months go. IF they put all my missing money on my paycheck THEN I can come down to the Bay. If not, turkey here and I polish up the resume earlier. No point really sending it out 4Q, so must have it ready for 1Q when hiring freezes can go away.
401k down nearly 50%. Alas, in rebuilding mode. Comfortingly, I hope that'll mean I don't have less stocks. Am considering doing an investment rollover, as I manage stocks better than I think they are on my behalf. But I'm trying to remember that my money is buying more with things in the toilet. I have 20 years to recover!
Found a nice color - want to paint my room. Sounds like the perfect project along with ripping out the carpet for January or Feb, when I'm always in search of a hobby. Will have to see how Ace brand paint covers. I let myself be talked into it by the sales gal, instead of going pricey like I usually do.
Oh - mom took the $3 fake wreath I bought at goodwill and has turned it into an expensive looking, gorgeous wreath now hanging by the front door. As she always does. I wish I had her talent for making things beautiful.
Off to bed reasonably early tonight - lots to do in the morning.
