Trying to tie off all the loose work details so things don't unravel while I'm at Pennsic. It's my first vacation in 2 years, since I'm totally not counting packing and moving across country as a vacation for all that it was a week off work.

Got a new haircut (Short! Hasn't been this short since I was a little girl and blond.) Got new glasses that darken when exposed to sunlight though not peril. May have a new dress or two if Amy sends me the black one and I get this green one done. Of course, it would help if I wasn't working 10-12 hour days.

We got the ceiling fan that fell off mom's room ceiling into the kitchen over the table area, so now it has air circulation and better light.

Mom was nudged off the road onto the shoulder by a semi, and an out of alignment cone hit the left side mirror popping off the reflective surface. She went back a couple nights later and found it, but the surface is a spiderweb break. I put it back on the mounting anyway as it can at lest show shapes in the blind spot but I need a new one. KTB has offered to take me dumpster diving at a broken car lot near his house over labor day weekend to find a replacement, and I'm staying on his couch. Well, unless I can talk him into inviting me upstairs. Mustn't rush the issue. He's paranoid enough without realizing he's the object of a campaign, and he doesn't trust me yet. *insert picture of me laughing wryly*

Took the boy to the gym. He's still over two minutes off the pace needed for Navy-dom, so going to take him back there again in a mutually beneficial way to get him working on it. Carla and I rode the mile and a half with him on bikes as he ran last night. Mom made dolmas, a Syrian recipe. One version with lamb, one vegan with curried rice and raisins. Both scrumptious.

Not practicing daily, but I think it works out to every other day for an hour on the flute. It's proving to be a fine thing, and meditative which I needed. Mom says lets try out for on stage parts for "Into the Woods" next summer down in Cottage Grove. I'd love to play the baker's wife! What the heck. If the campaign fails or is still in it's infancy I'm totally up for it. Will know by tryouts in June.

I sent a note to one of my executive voters today that I was looking for input on who his replacement should be since he's not been a strong presence. Him: "Was I voted off the island?" Me: "Not voted off! But Senator, your constituency has certain perceptions of a very erratic attendance at important meetings and votes here in congress." At last I've been there long enough that I can let small bits of my personality creep into business correspondence with the ones who know me. And hey, he started it! Without laughter, this job would be a lot less fun.

Also for the first time may be able to influence hires. People actually asked for my opinions on good fits, and I could promote people that I really think would fit well. After years back in MSSD of being pretty well ignored that way, it's nice even if it is an illusion.

Ah well. Back to my presentation. Must shorten my paragraphs and sentences into fragments for executive reading. VPs and Directors don't do English. Nor does Sales. Hm. The literary ceiling?
