Just watched Across the Universe with Geofry and Ian. Geofry and I sang through most of it though I confess there are a couple Beatles songs I just don't know. Still one of the most beautifully made movies ever. Though if you don't like music, don't see it.

Went to C's place to feed her cat, start packing her kitchen and get some clothes together. She'd sent a list, and I couldn't find slippers or anything nice to go to a funeral in. So we ran by the store to buy her something in a new outfit for the occasion, hope it fits. Ran it up to Salem to rendezvous with a friend from Portland to drop it off.

Mom and I picked up a hitchhiker on the way, ran her into a shopping center. The lady kinda made me sad, though perhaps I should not have been. There is nothing wrong with marching to your own drummer, and I've long been an advocate of legalizing many activities. Still, it seemed a dodgy way of life, and I think she was younger than she looked.

Driving back down I-5 we passed two clouds of smoke. Not bad smoke. Smoke like someone is doing naughty and wonderful things to fish smoke. I told mom I couldn't make it back to Springfield, we had to stop in Corvallis. I took her down to the riverfront area for a brief walk before ending up at the Water Street Market. We bought a pint of the best smoked oysters on the planet, and had dinner at Aqua - a little seafood restaurant by the riverwalk. Stopped briefly in to visit my next flute in the shop where her parents keep her on pegs in a case. She's still doing well. We had a short conversation, and I once again declared my undying love. She understands that we cannot be together yet. Patient my love, patient my flute. The best things that last forever do not always start quickly, though there is always a moment of spark when you understand what is inevitable.

The day was beautiful for a drive. Reminded mom that I love her, and told her stories. Some of friends, some of Pennsic, some of friends AT Pennsic. I'm excited to see folks. Still need to work out award ribbons for the wines, as no one has posted their volunteer spirit. But the band will all be there, to my surprise, so we can make music and sing and dance and laugh every night.
