C. called tonight asking to come over, sounded a bit down in the mouth. Her Stepfather had gone through chemo, finished it, only to discover the cancer had metastasized through his liver and organs. Pretty much only a few more months if that to live.

It's been a rough couple of months for her. Her grandmother was ill in the hospital, now going into a home. Stepmom had her appendix out yesterday.

She arrived with chocolate, I put a glass of wine in her hand, and we'd just settled down to watch cheerful musicals to help her sad mood when the phone rang. Her stepsister called - Stepmom was just moved to ICU.

She fretted for a few minutes wondering what it could be. I asked what hospital and just dialed in pretending to be her to get info out of the nurses. (I get on well with nurses.) They said one moment - then suddenly I was talking to a doctor. She was coding he said, and the crash cart was in there now. I (C.) should get there as quickly as possible, and he had to go back in now.

Well Crapola. Threw the upset C. into the shotgun seat on the car, mom in the back, and we set off for Portland. 9:49 I remember looking down at the clock, and said to myself 'She just died'. Five minutes later her dad called in tears. Stepmom was dead.

When she recovered, she talked about her best friend and his issues, and how she wished he could be there. Mom and I talked quietly at a gas station. It sounds like bf is either sick with a never get overable or doing drugs or both and is ashamed to see her. What a series of unfortunate events.

So we went up to Providence Portland, a very nice hospital, and I met her father and his family. Nice folks. Dad's a cutie. Rotten timing for a first intro.

Got C. over to her dad's house so he won't be alone tonight, and came back. We've got to move C. out of her old apartment this weekend, get her some clothes and her car, and look after her cat. Well, it'll be busy. And I'm totally skipping the meetings in the morning - so tired I'm tearful. There were 4:30 am calls Thursday morning to start the day. 23 hours, and I'm feeling older than I used to on no sleep.

Zzzzzz
