Usually I try to write more about my trips abroad, but Costa Rica comes to me in a series of snapshots in memory that I'll share with you now.

Capri pants and high heels are alive and well in Latin America.

Streetlights are expensive and wasteful. In high industrial areas, you have traffic cops acting as streetlights - much cheaper.

Directions are given relative to well known (to locals) landmarks - not by street addresses. This is only because no streets are labeled in the city.

A room plus breakfast is cheaper than just a room. Don't give housekeeping your laundry if you really love any of it. Underwear is safe to come back, but cool tshirts are not.

For the incident - just act confident and enthusiastic. Things seemed to go well. The account isn't going to charge us lots of money or demand legal recompense. They went out drinking with us on Thursday night, which is usually a pretty good sign. Got some networking in.
