Got a call this morning from mom saying they had an extra ticket to go see The Magic Flute at DCPA. What the heck, eh? Got myself together, ran some errands, and went.

Maurice Sendak meets the Freemasons. Sendak did all the sets, and they were wonderful! Dreamy, fantastic, childish, frightening, hokey and elegant. The opening translucent drop lit up bit by bit through the overture, illumining each character up to where the three little genies were handing a lyre to a black shadow of Mozart sitting in a hut. And those words don't describe how cool that bit of lighting was.

Critiques - I'd have trimmed a couple of the really long and not terribly plot enhancing songs of the interminable second act. Or pepped them up a few bpm. Our Queen of the Night I think was fighting off a cold and was flat on her high arpeggiations on the second go around. One sour note out of the lead horn. Other than that - musically a delight.

Went back to Dave's to eat dinner and watch a few episodes of Dead Like Me in between NFL and Desperate Housewives. Alas, I pulled out a chicken breast leftover in his fridge, and am regretting it. Threw the rest out, but its too late. Not so bad as hemlock, but after speaking to the toilet I still don't feel better. Ick.

Got Kat and myself addicted to Dead Like Me though. Maybe its Mandy Patinkin. Always did have a soft spot for him. Kat picked up Zane so I could spend the evening curled up on Dave's couch under a blanket, arms wrapped around my rock hard and gurgling tummy. Home now, fed the cat, I'm off to sleep.

Damn. Can still hear those flat high notes.
