King Kong died for our sins..
Jan. 17th, 2006 12:58 amFinally saw the movies, as the title suggests. Peter Jackson makes pretty movies. Its 20-30 minutes too long, and for me there was a scene in the slogging through the jungle falling into things that, by all means, see the movie and let me know if you agree it could have been cut. Just over the top, in a "Okay, we get it. The island has icky things on it" way. But hey, he doesn't go on the way Tarantino does, so I survived it.
Warning - Kong dies. So if you weren't aware it was going to happen from the original version, I'm going to spoil it for you. Giant apes don't survive New York. Heck, what does? But the death was handled with love and respect, which is all one can ask for in any proper epic or sweeping death scene. He even got a speech in, which wowed me. I mean, the big ape doesn't talk, and it was a good speech.
Want to see The Pianist now, as Adrian Brody can act and I've seen it happening. Impressive. The blond was even cute, and far less annoying than leading lady blonds usually are in my experience. Not quite Viola, but certainly above TV. Her eyes were like limpid pools of sky. Hee. And I like Jack Black. Watching him dance across the line of sanity to crazy, then trudge back reluctantly when there was no other choice.. well, ya got to hate him all the way through as a manipulative jerk.
Nice CGI and matte work. All in all, I don't need to see it twice, but I was very glad to have seen it on a big screen. So go see it on a big screen, trust me. It deserves scope.
And discretion was the better part of valor, but a better moment will come soon. Woot!
