A red dress
May. 5th, 2005 08:54 pmI danced all night in that red satin dress
With stockings I wore for you
And heels to show off the seam up the back.
My face painted, my hair curling beside my face
I felt so beautiful. So many things were possible.
And you didn't come to the party.
I don't really care for the reasons
That I've heard a hundred times before.
That game's gone stale and tiresome.
The point that you missed
Was that the dress was for you
And I don't often wear dresses.
I painted my eyes brighter, my lips red,
To entice your smiles, the touch of your hand.
And I don't wear it often.
And heels pinch my toes, and stockings rip
And a smile would have made it worthwhile.
I didn't want a promise, or even a tumble.
Yet it would have been worth the trouble
If you'd danced and smiled, even once.
A moment lost, never to return.
I'm so giving up little boys. I swear it this time.
With stockings I wore for you
And heels to show off the seam up the back.
My face painted, my hair curling beside my face
I felt so beautiful. So many things were possible.
And you didn't come to the party.
I don't really care for the reasons
That I've heard a hundred times before.
