Love, or something like it
Nov. 17th, 2008 05:26 pmThe honeymoon is over, but I am still besotted. Yes, my friends, I've discovered that there can be a substitute for sleeping with someone. It's called a nice new electric blanket. One does not need a partner to have nearly instant warm feet, a warmed tush. It's arms always hold you just how you want to be held, sometimes about the shoulders, sometimes lower wrapped around your tummy and breasts.
One can also love a book, an old familiar friend that makes you teary every time you get to the good parts. That has sweeping quotes you love to say aloud in your head.
I really love my bra-sko shoes too. They let me walk like a normal person in the morning without hobbling about, with lots of cushion and a cute painting on the side that, while flawed, makes me smile because it was done especially for me.
I love fall weather too. Apparently the whole 'it rains constantly in the PNW' is what they tell tourists to keep them from moving here. We're at nearly a week of flawless, sunny, crystal cool weather with beautiful trees, green grasses. Just exquisite, the sort of days where you're glad to be alive, walking on the grass.
And holidays. I just love them. Even the years when I was alone and sad, or suffering from post-relationship blues, there's something about twinkling lights and seasonal music and bright colors in shop windows that can always cheer me up. And when one is in a good mood to start with, there's all the anticipation of seeing friends, mulling wine, telling jokes, playing games together.
Why, I think I'll pop one of my bottles of gluhwine now and sample it. Raising a glass to you, world, and cupid for bringing me that electric blanket.
