Slept in for the first time in forever, it was lovely. And another delightful surprise in unexpected phone calls from an unexpected source. And in between, news from John that his father is, no foolin' this time, moving out. So he can come up on the circuit from Reno after moving him, and we get a visit after all! Must launch a campaign versus the foliage around the yard.

Mom and I started the day, walking the dog on down a few blocks to pick up the lawnmower from the shop. Alas, as it happens the shop was closed today especially. To add insult to injury, it started to pour rain as we turned the corner back onto our street. Too far to dash, or even run, so we sauntered and started the picking up of new autumn leaves for the coffee table collection.

Got home to an email from my dad that my Grandmother Warner passed on in her sleep. No surprise, she'd been wanting to go for a while now. A bit of a surprise that she died a week ago, and this was the first we heard of it. But I'm glad for her. Dad mentioned the possibility of taking her to Wyoming next month, but I think mom talked him into next summer for the burial next to Grandpa Warner in Sheridan. Better weather, more time to plan and all that.

Took the next door dead cat lady off to Wal-mart for a slow jaunt, and left her there for a couple of hours. We ran to the bookstore to pick up some Ducks gear, and I'm now the proud owner of a green hoodie, with another for Brucie down under. Got mom a pink Ducks T, as they played the Trojans today. The dead cat lady wasn't there on time to be picked up, so we ran by the Goodwill to get a set of cheap wine glasses.

With Geof's friend Jason here we begged out of a neighborhood spaghetti dinner. I made a lovely seafood risotto. Started with some onion and garlic, leeks, mushrooms, fresh sage chopped in. I used a clam base, then added in sea scallops and baby shrimp toward the end. Got some fresh zucchini and yellow squash to stir fry with tomatoes on the side with marsala, basil, and more garlic. It was yum. The neighbor Virgie brought over a sugar free apple pie, but I attempted some small modicum virtue and skipped it entirely.

Then off to a concert of pipe organ music, based on astronomy and co-hosted by the astronomy club headed by a local sci fi writer. Lots of neato slides, and learned lots. This year is the 51st year since Sputnik was launched. Makes you think! Afterwards mom took Virgie from across the street back home, while the boys and I went off in search of my favorite coffee house downtown. They were closed apparently and the espresso machine cleaned and off, but the gal was willing to pour us glasses of all the dessert wines we pointed at. Then couldn't take money for it, so Jason handed her a $20 and we told her to just pocket it. Kind of odd, but she let us linger for as long as we liked with interesting French music playing in the back. This is why it is my favorite, for moments like these.

Luckily, my savior Dutch Bros was open on the way home. Now we're back, sharing some Belle de Brillet and watching another episode of Rome for Jason. A good day.
