Non Pennsic
Aug. 15th, 2008 12:12 pmIt's blackberry season. 15 minutes of picking in random public places for 2 people nets a gallon of berries. We've frozen a couple gallons, and have a couple other syrups/reductions in the fridge. Nummy num num. Of course, I've learned things. Wear long sleeves. And pants. I can't overemphasize the importance of jeans or thicker pants that go down to the shoes and socks. And thick shoes. And a really thick glove. The first day it was Bushes: 2, Dauntless Berry Picker: 0. Falling into the bushes is, for the record, bad.
The boy aced his PT for the Navy, and ships out Sept 3. It's a really good thing, and he's making a point of being completely helpful and cooperative in these last couple of weeks.
Mom's been interviewing again, with one in particular piquing her interest. We're a bit behind where I wanted to be on home improvement projects based on a lack of funding, but my funds for this year have been devoted to supporting the three of us. If Mom gets a job and Geof gets a job and the Navy is required to feed and clothe the boy, I'll suddenly have a lot more to finish getting out of debt and updating this house.
Big Needs:
New Stairs
New front walk and driveway
Upstairs bathroom - possible creation of a master suite.
Renovate kitchen - moving wall in laundry room
Wiring improvement for upstairs
Possible new roof - 2009
New shed?
Small Needs:
Update overhead lamp in my room
Paint lower bathroom
Get an overhead fan that fits mom's room
Resurface living room floor
Strip and repaint front porch
Paint house
Mom's ballroom gown is nearly finished. Must decide what I'll wear next. I've ordered the heterodyne winged trilobyte pin and a set of brass goggles. Gotta get humping on John and Geof's aeronautical navy outfits. Full house this weekend with Dana, John, Don, Bruce, and Tink in residence. Hm. What to do tomorrow...
