So we played Mahjongg tonight. Carla, Geofry, Mom and I. The rules that came with her set were CLEARLY translated into English by someone with English as a fourth language. It wasn't quite "All your base are belong to us" but it was darned close. We got the jist of it, and went twice through. I pulled up the rules online - or I should say one version of the American rules. There are a LOT of optional versions of rules out there. We'll try again earlier in the evening.

Got the sewing done for Pennsic a day early. Tomorrow will pack and get suitcases together. I leave at 8:30 pm for a red eye through Vegas out to Pennsylvania. Yay!

Drove out to Corvallis today to pick up my music from the shop. Yes, they could have shipped it. But then I wouldn't have had to go by and pick up the BEST SMOKED OYSTERS EVER where they live in the market a block away from the music store. So now I have a copy of the Carmen fantasy for flute and piano. It's bitchy. Really really bitchy.

Mom's blue. She was supposed to be in Portland for Jody's wedding, but apparently things were dodgy, uncomfortable, and oddly rude. She'd been a member of that clan since she and Marilyn went to high school together, but things did not go at all well. Bridezilla was a high maintenance tragedy of a bitch, and Keri was trying to compensate. Marilyn may have been highly medicated, as she barely flickered an eyebrow when mom said she was going home early instead of staying through the wedding.

Trying to cheer her up with the whole looking forward notion toward the 1889 ball in San Fran over Labor day. I got her a dress pattern for a period ball gown, and she'll be putting one together. Aunt Dana says she'll go, but Uncle John's apparently not fond of the Peers group that runs it. Perhaps we'll be able to change his mind, when all the girls are there and excited. Apparently they're also coming up to look for houses up here, leaving the Bay area to settle in Oregon. Hurray!

They'll be here the same time as Bruce, Tink, and Bruce's dad. Hm. Logistics will require some work, but we can make it go. Must find something fantastically fun to do that weekend. At least for Saturday night.

I plan to leave out a bowl of scotch to see if the fairies shampoo the carpet around my desk from where I spilled coffee on myself during a meeting.
