I had an adventure dream this morning, the sort that takes you back to familiar old jobs in years gone by while throwing new stuff at you. I knew a couple of faces (Ed and Darren), but there were strangers around that seemed to be an amalgamation of SOC folks I knew past and present without being any one of them in particular. I was back playing Tech Lead in the SOC, but the SOC was more like a bunker on the front lines in a battle. How visually appropriate, no? But the countryside we were defending was being invaded by aliens/soldiers/people with guns and blasters. A simile no doubt for the old days when we watched the virii spread around the internet following the sun, and we would see various sensors go red with the suddenly huge traffic load.

But this time it was more dirty, the SOC a bunker, in the middle of a war zone. We were pinned down by cover fire. I wanted to just say 'look, here's the plan, we're going to do this'. But I was not the most senior in the room, and I was not entirely sure the strangers would just follow my direction. So I was taking Lacey's advice again, trying to take the counsel of others before taking over with orders on how to get us all out alive. You know, let everyone feel like they have input into the process before you force directions on them? Especially as the bullets had faded into intermittent, just enough to pin us down. Ed had been in the middle of a soliloquy about the philosophy of war when the last round of shooting started.

Me to Ed: "What do you propose now, o philosopher?"
Ed: "I've given up philosophy in favor of full automatic."

Me addressing the rest of the team: "Okay, think outside the box here. What do you guys propose to.. what the hell are you doing over there?!?"
Some unnamed SOCer: "I'm too terrified to think, so I'm peeing in the box corners to soften them up."

You can imagine the dream mental image for yourself. My own laughter woke me up.
