Happy Thursday
Jan. 31st, 2008 02:39 pmGood things. The cat has lost her aggressive femininity, and is now a much quieter little It. Finally unpacked the majority of the boxes in my room with a little inspiration. Course, now I want to paint it.
Did taxes. Being the sole support of the Boy has been good for a nice financial windfall come tax returns time. Urge to kill him significantly less when there's solid benefit, and school starts monday! Can't think when I've been so happy to consider a new semester.
Have a nice fellow coming to visit me next weekend. I'm terribly nervous, in a cheerfully abandoned and 'nothing ventured nothing gained' sort of way. Must figure out what fun things to do together besides the obvious. If the obvious is not on the menu, either way we'll get on well I think.
Mom needs a job! Kept her from going to sell her plasma with the promise she can just have my State tax returns. See, I was that poor once in college and went down to try to sell my plasma. I hated the feeling in my stomach from the whole situation, and couldn't bear the notion that she might experience it. We all hate asking for money, we proud folks, so I have to remember to just offer it. Then to wash the taste of out my mouth we went to Borders.
Got a couple of the Motley Fool investment books. I'm going to start spreadsheets with what investments I'd do and watch them for 6 mos before jumping into that market, but this move and situation has convinced me that I can do a lot more for my own financial security than I have been. It was a very fun few years of no dependants, no real debts, no real constraints, but I was childish in my avoidance of anything more than dumping into a 401(k) in a 'drop it in and forget it' way. So I can't do sushi twice a week anymore. Maybe if I play my cards right, and more importantly my funds, I will one day be able to do that again and more.
Like travel with spending money. Wouldn't it have been nice to go to Turkey with enough money to actually buy the things I admired? At least, some of them? Mm. Fantasy.
