Fighting under a bridge
Jan. 23rd, 2008 09:21 pmSo they do their Baronial fighter practice under a bridge Wednesday nights in Eugene. Dwen, you'd be so delighted to know there's a feisty chick fighter here. But only three other gents in armor. Perhaps it's the winter lull? It was chilly out there, with frozen mud. Somewhere in the teens? To these poor northwesterners, the coldest of icy interludes.
Sat with an Angharad, shared my blanket with her as she knitted warm socks. Her boy was off getting in armor as apparently a new pursuit. We sat and traded newbie horror stories. There's apparently a place where a married woman whose husband is not into the SCA plays is encouraged severely to wear widow's garb so, and get this, the men will know not to hit on her.
Another lady had a place where, when you get an award of arms, you get to wear a gold A somewhere. NO circlets. I simply must go there so I can have a giant red A across my chest, maybe on a white dress. Actually, hell with that. I'll just get one and wear it everywhere. Whoooooo!
I am informed that some doofusses somewhere in the SCA made it so 16 year olds cannot fight. That totally bites, what the hell? Going to look it up. So got Ian all excited about fighter practice, and they won't do more than 'air fighting' or showing him how to throw a shot.
Le sigh. Apparently will have to teach the boy to fight myself. I need a stick of rattan. Anyone? Old swords shipped my way that are no good for actual hitting of people? We're going to take a poplar tree out to man height in the backyard, have something to swing at.
May have to get the lad some armor bits too, though like all of us I think he should have to make his own set.

Date: 2008-01-24 07:46 am (UTC)You know, was just thinking I need to make you clothes again.
Bring up bits? Somewhere in this town there has to be a foot of railroad tie that needs a new home. I used to be able to work leather and metallic bits, and not just for the naughty reasons! Anyway. Will start surfing craig's list for leather too.
Can't wait to see ya, my dearie dear!

Date: 2008-01-31 05:26 pm (UTC)Second: dimensions for bits? I'm sure he's changed a mite in the vertical axis... what does he need -- helm? shield? etc?
Third: really? Old swords not good for hitting folks? What about sound, working rattan? And do you have a basket hilt (or source)?
Fourth: Address?
Fifth: Will you still be able to come to Pennsic from there?
Finally: MWAH! MWAH! MWAH!!! Yayayyyyyy!!! It's you!
