New Years pt 2, and home again
Jan. 5th, 2009 11:38 amNew Year's Eve dancing was great. Danced with John, Dave, and Ellie, lots of fun. I'm not sure about singing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" at midnight. Like John, I think that perhaps a better song for 2009 would be appropriate. So we sang I could have Danced All Night too, then "The Rainbow Connection" in honor of the theme being Somewhere Over the Rainbow. Glenda and Elphaba showed up in great costumes. A great time was had by all.
We got the ceiling molding hung at John's in the spare bedroom and his, and it looks fabulous. Borrowing Kurt's chop saw and nail gun made it go very quickly. I puttied the corners to make them look smooth, and at the joint seams for John's room. There are a couple very thin wall gaps in the spare room that will need more love, but I ran out of time. Will paint the ceiling and trim in both sides next time. Also decided the white looks so good, I'm going to repaint the trim in John's room from the brown to match it. Then baseboard molding some later date.
12th night down in the West was entertaining, though there was a little culture shock here and there. They hold coronation at 12th night, and court seemed to go on from 10am to 6pm. And no feast? It was all potluck, though John's group of 'the fealty shrub' were lovely people and good cooks. Still coming from a kingdom where people cook feasts, it just felt a little strange. Also the tables spread through different rooms. No musicians, no entertainment.
It is, however, the land of amazing embroidery. Wow.
Stopped by Kurt's birthday for family chat, brief smooch on the cheek, a threat of a mystery birthday present to arrive later. Working on that conspiracy now.
I've kidnapped John up here to help me build a shed, sink a medicine cabinet into the wall, and go to An Tir 12th Night. Mini-Fey and her boy are coming down from Portland to stay with me too, so we'll have fun. I wonder if they do food or whether we'll need to steal another pickinick basket from under the Ranger's nose.
