Virtue and good cheer
Feb. 16th, 2008 07:14 pmSo the boy is off to a weekend at Yachats with the youth group and all its fair damsels. We're beside ourselves with quiet glee at the solitude. Geof said he may wait until the end of March to come out, but we beseeched that he might send out his circular saw in advance while at the hardware store looking at the saw aisle. Girls love power tools!
Today took off the front door, divested it of hardware and sanded, primed it before laying the first layer of greenish blue on it. Mom planted flowers and greenery outside, all that she'd picked out last week. We now have a primrose lined path and sprouted bulbs in the ground.
Then came inside and swept, mopped the kitchen and bathroom. Then got carried away and shampooed the main living room rug and the small bit of carpet at the base of the stairs. Mom made cookies and ran the lady across the street around on some errands. Apparently Anita (the next door neighbor) volunteered us to help her out in her absence, since we're walking Anita's dog as it is. Wish she'd told us!
Did a bit of laundry. Discovered that I should have set up a medical fund when signing up for the PPO as my ER bill arrived. Insurance covered $93. The rest is mine. Ya-freakin-hoo.
Bought sawhorses, an electric sander, a small saw, and two rakes. Finally used up the rest of the Home Depot gift card - now we're on our own!
Anyway. Little carpets! Next weekend or so want to rent a rototiller and take out half the backyard. Hm. Then need to make a sifter for the sod pulled up to get the dirt out. So much to do!
It was a very nice visit. Alas though, I fear the pleasant fellow is still emotionally married to his incipient ex. Doomed before the beginning, though I think we'll be great friends.
